Some Helpful Web-based Tools for Business Owners

Oct 5th 2008 by admin

The web is getting more and more sophisticated. Tasks that were relegated to software on your local machine and been slowly moving to a web-based interface thanks to giant leaps in programming and some inventive websites. So, in order to help our clients stay ahead of the curve, we’ve been doing some research on helpful web tools and wanted to share a few that we think might be helpful to some of you:

Splashup

Splashup is photoshop scaled down, on the web, and free. You can create new images, resize or edit photos, and quite a bit more. If you’ve never worked with Photoshop, it may take a bit to learn the ins and outs, but it’s a pretty cool program once you get the hang of it. I’d recommend it for those who want to create simple images or want to crop or resize images.

Resizr

Another site that specifically resizes images. More simple than Splashup but with only the resize functionality.

Net2FTP

Net2FTP allows you to FTP into your website. FTP is the ability to get inside your server. You can download and upload files directly to your server with this tool. For example, if you want to have people download a pdf from your site, you log into your ftp and upload your pdf file somewhere on your server. You then link to that file within a page on your site (ex: http://www.yoursite.com/file-name.pdf) This is very handy if you don’t have a standalone ftp client.

GoogleDocs

Spreadsheets, documents and presentations done online and for free.

Remember the Milk

Online and free Task tool. It helps to organize your to-do list and can be accessed online, via email, and through your phone.

We’ll keep our eyes open for more sites that might be helpful and expand on this list as new ones come to ou attention.
